REVELATION 13

The beast out of the sea: political Babylon

[the Antichrist]

Rev. 13:1  And

[1] I stood

[a.] upon the sand of the sea, and

[2] [I] saw a beast

[a.] rise up out of the sea [out of diverse peoples (Dan. 7:2-3)],

[b.] having seven heads [the demonic forces which have controlled seven of the eight world kingdoms which have or will yet rule Israel.  The six in the past are Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome.  The seventh kingdom which is yet to come is the revised Roman Empire, out of which will come the eighth and final kingdom to rule Israel: the revived Grecian Empire—which shall be ruled by the Antichrist (see Rev. 17:9-12; see also Endnotes #8 and 9, The Chronological Revelation)] and

[c.] ten horns [a 10-nation confederacy which will yet come together to form revised Rome], and

                        [d.] upon his horns

[11.] ten crowns [the kings or heads of state of these kingdoms/nations], and

                        [e.] upon his heads

[11.] the name of blasphemy [<<name, not names>> (c/p. Rev. 17:3)].

Benchmarks of the Antichrist's rise to power

13:2  And the beast which I saw

[1] was like unto a leopard [Greece (Dan. 7:6)], and

[2] his feet were as [the feet] of a bear [Medo-Persia (Dan. 7:5)], and

[3] his mouth as the mouth of a lion [Babylon (Dan. 7:4)]: and

            [4] the dragon gave him

                        [a.] his power [anointing], and

                        [b.] his seat [throne], and

                        [c.] great authority [dominion].

13:3  And I saw one of his heads as it were

[1] wounded to death [the Roman Empire was not conquered, it disintegrated; Rome, however, did deliver a mortal wound to the world empire of Greece; the Antichrist, himself, also will likely receive a mortal wound]; and

            [2] his deadly wound

[a.] was healed [there shall be a restoration of the revived Grecian Empire: the kingdom of the Antichrist; the Antichrist also may be raised from the dead]: and

                        [a.] all the world

[11.] wondered after the beast [the beast is a wonder].

13:4  And they [they within the boundaries of the revived Grecian Empire, which are substantially the same as the old Grecian Empire]

[1] worshipped the dragon [Satanic worship]

[a.] which gave power unto the beast: and they

            [2] worshipped the beast, saying,

[a.] Who [is] like unto the beast?

[b.] who is able to make war with him [there is both the desire to and the inability to fight him (c/p. Rev. 13:9-10)]?

The characteristics and extent of the Antichrist's reign

13:5  And there was given unto him

            [1] a mouth speaking

                        [a.] great things and

                        [b.] blasphemies (Dan. 7:8, Dan. 7:11, Dan. 7:25); and

[2] power was given unto him

[a.] to continue forty [and] two months [his 3 ½ year reign as the Antichrist is during the last half of the Antichrist Covenant week and Daniel’s 70th week of years (Dan. 7:25; Dan.12:7; Rev. 11:2; c/p. Dan. 9:27)].

 13:6  And

[3] he opened his mouth

[a.] in blasphemy against God,

[b.] to blaspheme his name, and

[c.] [to blaspheme] his tabernacle, and

[d.] [to blaspheme] them that dwell in heaven [saints who by death have escaped His reach].

The Antichrist makes war with the saints, and prevails

13:7  And it was given unto him

[1] to make war with the saints [a final harvest of the 12 tribes of Israel, born again under the ministry of the 144,000 and the two witnesses (c/p. Rev. 7:1-4)], and

            [2] to overcome them: and

[3] power was given him over all

                        [a.] kindreds, and

                        [b.] tongues, and

[c.] nations [inside the territories of the revived Grecian Empire (see notes on Rev. 17:8-11); peoples is missing as Israel is in the wilderness (Rev. 12:6, Rev. 12:14)]
