Thyatira

 

The greeting and description of Jesus

 

 2:18  And unto the angel [messenger or pastor] of the church in Thyatira write;

            [1] These things saith the Son of God, who hath

                        [a.] his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and

                        [b.] his feet [are] like fine brass;

The commendation

 

 2:19  I know thy

            [1] works, and

            [2] charity, and

            [3] service, and

            [4] faith, and thy

            [5] patience, and thy

            [6] works; and

                        [a.] the last [to be] more than the first.

The admonition

 

 2:20  Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because

            [1] thou sufferest that woman Jezebel,

[a.] which calleth herself a prophetess,

[11.] to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and

                                    [12.] to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

 2:21  And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and

[1] she repented not.

 

 2:22  Behold,

[1] I will cast

                        [a.] her into a bed [a sickbed], and

                        [b.] [I will cast] them that commit adultery with her

[11.] into great tribulation [no definite article for tribulation],

[aa.] except they repent of their deeds.

 2:23  And

[2] I will kill

[a.] her children with death; and

                                    [11.] all the churches shall know that

[aa.] I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and           

[3] I will give

[a.] unto every one of you

[11.] according to your works.

The remedy and consequences for ignoring

 

 2:24  But

            [1] unto you I say, and

            [2] unto the rest in Thyatira,

                        [a.] as many as have not this doctrine, and

                        [b.] which have not known the depths of Satan,

[11.] as they speak;

            [3] I will put upon you none other burden.

 

 2:25  But that which ye have [already]

[1] hold fast till I come.

The reward for obedience

 

 2:26  And he that

            [1] overcometh, and

            [2] keepeth my works unto the end,

                        [a.] to him will I give power over the nations:

2:27  And

[b.] he shall rule them with a rod of iron [these saints shall rule the nations with a rod of iron (c/p. Ps. 149:5-9; Rev. 19:15)`];

[11.] as the vessels of a potter

[aa.] shall they [the nations] be broken to shivers:

[111.] even as I received of my Father.

 2:28  And I will give him [these who overcome]

[1] the morning star [Rev. 22:16].

 

 2:29  He that hath an ear, let him hear

[1] what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
