WHAT TIME IT IS®

FIRST THESSALONIANS 5

The day of the Lord is the second coming, not the Rapture of the Church

1 Thes. 5:1  But of the times and the seasons, brethren,

[1] ye have no need that I write unto you.

5:2      [2] For yourselves know perfectly that

[a.] the day of the Lord [the second coming (Is. 13:6-13; Joel 1:15; Zeph. 1:14-18; c/p. 2 Thes. 2:2)] so cometh as a thief in the night [to those who are not watching and waiting].

 5:3  For

[1] when they shall say [it was ye, you, and yourselves in verse 1, now it is they:  those who are not watching and waitingand who were not taken up in the Rapture of the Church],

                        [a.] Peace and safety;

[2] then sudden destruction cometh upon them [those who are not watching and waiting],

[a.] as travail upon a woman with child; and

            [3] they shall not escape.

5:4  But ye [a return to ye] brethren,

            [1] are not in darkness,

[a.] that that day should overtake you as a thief.

 5:5      [2] Ye are all

[a.] the children of light, and

[b.] the children of the day:

            [3] we are not

                        [a.] of the night,

                        [b.] nor of darkness.

 5:6  Therefore

            [1] let us not sleep,

                        [a.] as [do] others; but

            [2] let us watch and

            [3] [let us] be sober.

5:7                  [a.] For they that sleep sleep in the night; and

[b] they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

 5:8  But

            [4] let us,

[a.] who are of the day,

                        [b.] be sober, putting on

[11.] the breastplate of faith and love; and

[12.] for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

[**A reminder: the Church is not appointed to suffer the wrath of God which is to come; although it is appointed to suffer afflictions, persecutions, and tribulation [which come from the Devil (1 Thes. 3:3)].

 5:9  For God hath

[1] not appointed [#5087] us to wrath [1 Thes. 1:10], but

[2] [appointed us] to obtain salvation [#4991]

[a.] by our Lord Jesus Christ,

[#5087, theo, to make, ordain, purpose, put, set (forth), settle, sink down, appoint (1 Thes. 3:3; Matt. 5:15; Matt. 24:15; John 15:16; Acts 5:4; 19:21; 1 Cor. 3:10, 11; 1 Thes. 5:9; Heb. 1:2, c/p. #2749)]

[#4991, soteria, salvation, deliverance, wholeness, healing, soundness, safety]

5:10                           [11.] Who died for us, that,

[aa.] whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

 5:23  And

[1] the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and

[2] [I pray God] your whole

                        [a.] spirit and

                        [b.] soul and

                        [c.] body

                                    [11.] be preserved blameless

[aa.] unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ [the Anointed One] [to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thes. 2:19; 1 Thes. 4:17)].

 5:24  Faithful [is] he

            [1] that calleth you,

[2] who also will do [it].
