Matt. 25:14 For [the kingdom of heaven is]
[1] as a man [Jesus] travelling
[a.] into a far country [heaven],
[11.] [who] called his own servants, and
[12.] [who] delivered unto them his
goods.
25:15 [aa.] And unto one he gave five talents*,
[ab.] to another two, and
[ac.] to another one;
[111.] to every man according to his several ability [obedience to
do what the Lord says concerning His money (c/p. Hag. 2:8)];
[aaa.] and straightway took his
journey.
[John Avanzini, who teaches on Biblical economics, says that a talent represented “96 years of daily wages (480 years wages for five of them)”. Dr. Dake [Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible]] says that a talent represented $29,085.00, which if a days wages was $0.17 (c/p. Matt. 20:2; Mark 6:37), then one talent would represent 468.7 years wages and five talents would represent 2,343 years wages. If we factor in inflation, at $15.00 per hour or $120.00 per day in wages ($43,800.00 per year in annual income), the Lord left to the least of these in ability the sum of $20,538,374.00, and to the greatest in ability to do with His money what He commands, He left the sum of $102,651,870.00. With these figures in mind, it is a bit easier to understand the Lord’s attitude to his unproductive servant at the end of this parable; and while considering it, remember Deuteronomy 8:18, "But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power [an Anointing] to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day". God’s purpose for this kind of money is to establish His Covenant in the earth and to bring in the great end time harvest of souls into the Body of Christ.]
25:16 Then [while
the Lord was on His journey]
[1] he that had received the five talents
[a.] went and traded with the same,
and
[11.] made [them] other five talents [he took the Lord’s $100,000,000 and made an additional $100,000,000].
25:17 And likewise
[2] he that [had received] two,
[a.] he also gained other two [he took the Lord’s $40,000,000 and gained an additional $40,000,000].
25:18 But
[3] he that had received one
[b.] went and digged in the earth, and
[11.] hid his lord's money [he didn’t even put the Lord’s money in the bank so that it would at
least earn interest that would compound over the years].
25:19 After a long time [after 2000+ years]
[4] the lord of
those servants
[a.] cometh, and
[b.] reckoneth with them [judgment day for our stewardship is coming].
25:20 And so
[5] he that had received five talents
[a.] came and brought other five
talents, saying,
[11.] Lord,
[aa.] thou deliveredst unto me five
talents:
[111.] behold, I have
gained beside them five talents more.
25:21 [6] His lord said unto him,
[a.] Well
done,
[11.] [thou] good and faithful servant:
[12.] thou hast been
[aa.] faithful over a few things [God calls $100,000,000 a “few things”],
[13.] I will make thee ruler
[aa.] over many things:
[b.] enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
25:22 [7] He also that had received two talents
[a.] came and said,
[11.] Lord,
[aa.] thou deliveredst unto me two
talents:
[111.] behold, I have gained two other
talents beside them.
25:23 [8] His lord said unto him,
[a.] Well
done,
[11.] good and faithful servant;
[12.] thou hast been
[aa.] faithful over a few things,
[13.] I will make thee ruler
[aa.] over many things:
[b.] enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
