MATTHEW 23-34

 Matthew 23

Jesus laments over His rejection and Jerusalem

Matt. 23:34  Wherefore, behold,

[1] I [Jesus] send unto you [the nation, Israel]

                        [a.] prophets, and

                        [b.] wise men, and

                        [c.] scribes: and

[11.] [some] of them ye shall

[aa.] kill and

[ab.] crucify; and

[12.] [some] of them shall ye

[aa.] scourge in your synagogues, and

[ab.] persecute [them] from city to city:

 23:35  That

[2] upon you [the nation, Israel] may come

[a.] all the righteous blood shed upon the earth,

[11.] from the blood of righteous Abel

[12.] unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias,

                                                [aa.] whom ye slew between

[111.] the temple and

[112.] the altar.

23:36  Verily I say unto you,

[3] All these things

[a.] shall come upon this generation [the generation of Jews that rejected Jesus].

23:37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem,

[1] [thou] that killest the prophets, and

            [2] [thou that] stonest them

[a.] which are sent unto thee,

[3] how often would I have gathered thy children together,

[a.] even as a hen gathereth her chickens under [her] wings, and

                                    [11.] ye would not!

23:38  [4] Behold, your house [the house of Jerusalem: the nation, Israel]

[a.] is left unto you desolate.

 23:39  [5] For I say unto you,

[a.] Ye shall not see me [your Anointed Messiah] henceforth,

                                    [11.] till ye shall say,

[aa.] Blessed [is] he that cometh

[111.] in the name of the Lord [c/p. Zech.12:7-14].

 Matthew 24

Jesus prophesies the destruction of the temple[1]

Matt. 24:1   And Jesus

            [1] went out, and

[2] departed from the temple: and

[a.] his disciples came to [him]

[11.] for to show him

[aa.] the buildings of the temple.

24:2  And Jesus said unto them,

[1] See ye not all these things?

[2] verily I say unto you,

[a.] There shall not be left here

[11.] one stone upon another [of the temple],

[aa.] that shall not be thrown down.

[1] Chapters 24 and 25 of Matthew—taken in their context—concern three subjects: the destruction of the temple, the signs of Jesus’ second coming, and the signs of the end of the age [not the world].  These passages primarily concern Israel and its people during The Antichrist Covenant week of years (Dan. 9:24-27), and not the Church.
