REVELATION 2 Pg 2

Smyrna

The greeting and description of Jesus

 2:8  And unto the angel [messenger or pastor] of the church in Smyrna write;

            [1] These things saith

                        [a.] the first and

                        [b.] the last, which

                                    [11.] was dead, and

                                    [12.] is alive;

The commendation

 2:9  I know

            [1] thy works, and

            [2] [thy] tribulation, and

            [3] [thy] poverty, (but thou art rich) and

[I know]

            [4] the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not,

[a.] but [are] the synagogue of Satan.

No admonition

 2:10  Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold,

            [1] the devil shall cast [some] of you into prison,

[a.] that ye may be tried; and

            [2] ye shall have tribulation ten days:

            [3] be thou faithful unto death [these will die for their faith], and

            [4] I will give thee a crown of life.

[Blessed [is] the man that endureth temptation [temptations, trials and testings]: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him (Jas. 1:12).]

The reward for obedience

2:11  He that hath an ear, let him hear

[1] what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

                        [a.] He that overcometh shall

[11.] not be hurt of the second death (Rev 20:14).

Pergamos

The greeting and description of Jesus

 2:12  And to the angel [messenger or pastor]  of the church in Pergamos write;

            [1] These things saith he

                        [a.] which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

The commendation

 2:13  I know

            [1] thy works and

            [2] where thou dwellest, [even]

[a.] where Satan's seat [throne] [is]: and

            [3] thou holdest fast my name, and

            [4] [thou] hast not denied my faith,

                        [a.] even in those days wherein Antipas [was]

                                    [11.] my faithful martyr,

                                    [12.] who was slain among you,

                        [b.] where Satan dwelleth.

The admonition

 2:14  But I have a few things against thee, because

            [1] thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam,

                        [a.] who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel,

                                    [11.] to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and

                                    [12.] to commit fornication.

 2:15  [2] So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes,

[a.] which thing I hate.

The remedy and consequences for ignoring

 2:16  Repent; or else

            [1] I will come unto thee quickly, and

            [2] [I] will fight against them

[a.] with the sword of my mouth.

The reward for obedience

2:17  He that hath an ear, let him hear

[1] what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

                        [a.] To him that overcometh will I

                                    [11.] give to eat of the hidden manna, and will

                                    [12.] give him a white stone, and

                                                [aa.] in the stone a new name written [the name of God (Rev. 3:12)], which

[bb.] no man knoweth saving he that receiveth [it] [God will call Himself by as a special name that is personal to each of us].
