REVELATION 3 Pg 3

Laodocia

The greeting and description of Jesus

 3:14  And unto the angel [messenger or pastor] of the church of the Laodiceans write;

            [1] These things saith

                        [a.] the Amen,

[b.] the faithful and true witness,

                        [c.] the beginning of the creation of God;

No commendation

 3:15  I know

            [1] thy works,

[2] that thou art neither cold nor hot:

[a.] I would thou wert cold or hot.

The admonition

 3:16  So then

            [1] because thou art

                        [a.] lukewarm, and

                        [b.] neither cold nor hot,

[2] I will spue thee out of my mouth [this is organized religion—a church without a Savior—which is left on the earth when the true church is caught up to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thes. 4:17), before God pours out His wrath on an unbelieving world].

 3:17  [3] Because thou sayest, I

                        [a.] am rich, and

[b.] [am] increased with goods, and

[c.] have need of nothing; and

[11.] knowest not that thou art

[aa.] wretched, and

                                                [bb.] miserable, and

                                                [cc.] poor, and

                                                [dd.] blind, and

[ee..] naked [self-righteousness is blind indeed]:

The remedy and consequences for ignoring

 3:18  I counsel thee

            [1] to buy of me

[a.] gold tried in the fire [the FAITH which comes from hearing MY WORD (1 Pet. 1:7; Rom. 10:17),

[11.] that thou mayest be rich; and

[2] [to buy of me] white raiment,

[b.] that thou mayest be clothed [clothed in God’s righteousness (2 Cor. 5:21)], and

[c] [that] the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and

[3] anoint thine eyes with eyesalve [it is the entrance of His Word that brings light (Ps. 119:130)],

                        [a.] that thou mayest see.

3:19  As many as I love,

            [1] I rebuke and

            [2] [I] chasten:

                        [a.] be zealous therefore, and

                        [b.] repent.

 3:20  Behold,

[1] I stand at the door, and

[2] [I] knock [Jesus is on the outside of the members’ hearts of this church, trying to get in; they practice religion, but have never been born again by receiving Jesus as a personal Savior]:

            [3] if any man

                        [a.] hear my voice, and

[b.] open the door [of his heart],

            [3] I will

[a.] come in to him, and

[b.] will sup with him, and

[11.] he [will sup] with me.

The reward for obedience

3:21  To him that overcometh [by being born again and resisting the mark of the beast (Rev. 13:15)]

            [1] will I

[a.] grant to sit with me in my throne,

[11.] even as I also overcame, and

[12.] [I] am set down with my Father

[aa.] in his throne.

3:22  He that hath an ear, let him hear

[1] what the Spirit saith unto the churches
